Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy

New techniques for treating varicose veins without having to undergo surgery have recently evolved. One of the most promising of these is ULTRASOUND GUIDED FOAM SCLEROTHERAPY

ULTRASOUND GUIDED FOAM SCLEROTHERAPY is a new method of treating varicose veins performed as an outpatient procedure which allows the patient to carry on life as normal. There is little little or no discomfort and only minimal bruising compared to other treatments, especially surgery.

ULTRASOUND GUIDED FOAM SCLEROTHERAPY also has the added benefit of being a fraction of the cost of other treatment options.

Who is suitable for foam injections?

Most patients with varicose veins of any size varicose veins whether primary or recurrent. Patients of any age, including the elderly, people who are an anaesthetic risk or those who have varicose veins as the cause of their leg ulcers

What is injected and how does it work?

The sclerosing fluid, already in common use as a liquid, is mixed with air to perform a mousse or microfoam. When foam is injected into the vein it pushes the blood out of the way thus allowing the undiluted foam to have it’s effect on the lining. The sclerosant destroys the lining which prevents the blood from travelling along the vein which then shrinks into a fibrous cord.
